We had long meetings today. Some information was good; some was short-sighted and shouldn't have been announced in public yet (such as their plans to tear down one of the art facilities, but they hadn't yet budgeted for building/acquiring new ones). It was good to touch bases with some colleagues I'd like to work with more.
At the staff picnic, I ran into a student who helped me a lot last year. She told me she couldn't do as much this year, which made me sad. One of the reasons she cited was she didn't like fighting the other students who fought having my help, that she knew they needed my help and thought they were being stupid for trying to undermine me. I was sad to see her go, but couldn't blame her. I was also thankful someone was a witness to the active undermining. As I walked away from her, I spotted one of the said-underminers letting a pregnant girl take a puff off her cigarette. Nice.
This is how evil will take over the world.
