And wait!
Ugh.
My finances are like the scariest roller coaster on the planet. Save a little money here, lose a ton of money there.
I took my car in for its tune-up and asked they check the brakes and tires, while I was signing the closing papers on the house (= gain same $ I put down on house).
The list they came back with was long... a series of $200-500 things... adding up to almost $2800. I should have cried or screamed or negotiated. Instead I shrugged and said, "hurry up and do it; I have to get on the road." (= lose $)
They might be taking me for a ride. Who knows what a car-person would say to that list. "This is fluff. This is non-essential." The fact is my car has been getting about 11 MPG the last few months, and I didn't think anything of this, since that's what I normally get when I calculate my mileage. Only on my last fill-up did it occur to me I wasn't pulling the trailer. 11 MPG is my trailer-pulling rate. Clearly, something was wrong.
They drove me home. I putzed around the house. I started to clean. I made a pile of things to go into the trailer. I got anxious. I thought about taking a nap. I planned how early I would leave tomorrow, as it became more clear I wouldn't be leaving today.
When the mechanic called and said they had gotten behind and it wouldn't be ready until 10 or 11 tomorrow, I threw myself a fit. If I'm going to over-pay $3 grand on this repair, I expect to have it done in a speedy way!
So, I wait. I will call them at 8 in the morning to pick me up, so I can STARE at them until they finish.
The road is calling...
