I finally had a warm, sunny day, and couldn't resist raking the piles of leaves I had taken all winter to consolidate. [I have a huge yard. I need to learn to accept the burden that comes with it.] I managed to fill up my trashcan (I have the 75 gallon kind), with smashing down, and half a neighbor's can (we share in the alley; it's allowed!), and get myself a light sunburn in the process. Now, I can see the error of my ways, where the grass piles either heated the ground enough to cause growth spurts, or suffocated the grass into a yellow, dead circle.
In my defense, this is the 4th time I've filled the trash cans. I have too many trees, apparently.
