Fall is kicking up leaves and pollen everywhere. I was sneezing so hard yesterday, I thought my brains were spewing out of my head. But still, we went out with the intention to vote.
Ah, voting. A strange ritual that usually brings me to some church or elementary school I have no attachment to. Early voting is even sillier. We had to go to the county voting office, which was a 20 minute drive out into the country. (I can't wait to move into our house, where the voting will be someplace obvious). On the way, a bald eagle swooped out of the sky and captured some poor, small creature, but I was still all smiles. Even in Montana, we hadn't gotten this close to them.
After voting, the sneezing continued, but we decided to shop the town square (we were there already, after all). The first store we went in to... we probably should have left immediately. But I'm always wondering if each place hides something special. It smelled like mildew. Like the grossest, scariest basement ever, but it was full of furniture. There were a few candles burning that set S's allergies off, but I couldn't smell them over the mold.
Undaunted, we went to the next place, a furniture and upholstery shop that appeared to be original to the 60s with the same owners running it. There, we scored an amazing kitchen table, with undulating chrome edges and star burst formica top. In pretty good shape, though not pristine. And only $40. She was ours before we finished going through the shop. I found some vintage kitchen towels in red and grey. They will match the red countertops and grey star bursts nicely.
The house appraisal is done. Now waiting for the underwriting. Then I don't know what step is next. Juggling, I think.
