A room without pee-- update

We've had the house for two weeks (as of tonight). A lot has been done, though it is not yet liveable.

Front door. This beautiful acorn iron work is over the glass screen door. It has a lock, but no key. And I can't decide if there is a more interesting way to greet the house. To the right, you see the original brick planter was removed at some point and replaced with a poorly-made wooden one. S said he will rebuild it for me! What to plant in it...

The patio has been a blessing as we have been working. Fall has been lingering and the weather has been crisp, sometimes warm, but not too cold. I moved the patio chairs over early in the game, and we sit out here on breaks. I've watched several sunsets through the fall leaves from here.

The yard is very deep. This shot is from escrow time, before the leaves changed. I like the kinship of these old trees.

The carport is functional. At some point, the rain gutter was damaged, which makes the whole thing look like it's falling down, but it isn't. It does block the view of the sunset from the patio, so we are debating about getting rid of it in the long run and putting a garage on the opposite side of the yard.

Here is the living room with the carpet and drapes. The original carpet and drapes. (See the previous post for the drape-drama. If the dry cleaning doesn't work, I'm probably buying something like these.)

Which is too bad, because you can see how perfectly they match the wallpaper.

So, now for the fun part. We had to pull up the carpet because it was (a) old and worn smooth and (b) peed on to an inch of its life. Maybe more.

I call this one, Lamp in River of Pee.

With the padding removed, we have been cleaning the plywood subfloor to remove the odor. I'll be painting it this weekend to seal it up too.

Here is S battling the stairs carpet. Which was stapled every 1.5 inches.

In the downstairs family room, under the blue padding (which was kind of an amazing color), was the striped linoleum.

Notice the... speckled?... texture of the remaining carpet. Yeah. That's what you think it is.

The padding had been glued to the floor. There was much scraping and scrubbing to remove it.

On the left, you can see the future guest room. The linoleum was in particularly poor condition in there.

It's still odd next to that stone fireplace. I feel like I'm in a rec center.

It did shine up when we washed it. The shine fades when it dries, since it hasn't been waxed in a couple decades. After I pulled the tack strips up, the tiles cracked. Now I'm waiting for a quote to replace. Oh well.

This weekend, we're finishing pulling up the carpet tack strips and the staples. Mr. Ellis will be refinishing them this week. One floor will be done! (Except for paint. And that cool lighting "feature" above, in my office.)

Mr. Hackett did an amazing job replacing he water heater, AC, heater, and air cleaner. He also removed the last fuse-tube electrical panel. (Here is after demo)

And we still have this interesting thing, which appears to be an air system for the bomb shelter. Hooray!
